[DISCUSSION THREAD] Let's view pets & game-mechanic nerfs under a different light.

Recommended Posts

This thread was made in regards to recent rumors that multiple pets are under the radar to be nerfed/adjusted.

NOTE:
I could care less about Snowfox, it was adjusted to 10 minutes which is fine and most Snowfox users are fine with this change compared to the nerf Rubik issued at first but I HAVE heard rumors that Snowfox lootpool was silent nerfed which is very questionable and should be viewed with a large data pool before lootpools even have a chance to be nerfed.)

So let's start, what is this even for?

  • I created this thread to open a door for community discussion for the sole reason that things occur without community feedback more often now than in the present. In short, the forums and community feedback is dead (so to speak).
  • So let's start, I'd like to shed light that people are going around with different opinions on what they believe to be broken pets or pets or mechanics that are unfair to new players. The argument I'd like to make here is that we should view alternative methods of adjustment rather than just tweaking percentage values or flat-out breaking pet's abilities or game-mechanics. The more and more that we nerf things, the gameplay mechanics just overall (many others and I believe) would become less and less unique and borderline not fun.

What's a good talking point for other methods?
Let's explore one pet that has been rumored to be nerfed...

Snowman Pet
SPECIAL: Lootboxes cost 25% less XP when going to the Lootbox vendor.

How could Snowman not be viewed "overpowered" as it seems?:

  • Many others and I believe that pets or game-mechanics observed as being "broken" or "overpowered" -- are very subjective due to how much someone uses (or no-life's) the abilities of pets or game-mechanics (great example is Katoon with BP's).

  • This doesn't inherently mean anything is broken or overpowered -- it really just means that the person who is doing these things are spending hours and days of their lives to grind on a Garry's Mod server to achieve something they desired. Don't get me wrong, I believe the BP nerf was needed to a certain extent but the talking-point of all of discussions regarding nerfs should honestly be the countless hours and days spent by these people that make these mechanics seem broken.

Exploring alternatives to nerfing:

  • Create ways for new players to gain things that pets offer inherently -- such as creating a purchasable "XP buff" for the Lootbox Seller that lets newer players get a percentage discount on Lootboxes that DOESN'T stack with the Snowman. This suggestion could allow new-players to have the very same thing that other players grinded for but for a price that allows them to have a temporary buff.

  • The best mechanic to compare this suggestion to is the battlepass purchasable task reduction that allows players to have to do less for rewards (MUCH LIKE THE HERMY PET WOW?).

My conclusion to open door for conversation
Let's try to create community feedback instead of things happening behind the scenes that create outrage. I'd like this topic to actually stay on point (even though it'll be trolled) and actually create change otherwise people will probably become less and less interested in TitsRP (as I've heard and heard countless times). Maybe we could create suggestions inside of this thread that give alternatives to nerfs or things that could ruin mechanics in the future.

Also LOL people think this is actually AI but I actually wrote this shit out like a degenerate LMFAO??

Bit ridiculous that a pet that's been in the server for years is suddenly nerfed because Rubik gets lucky from a few pulls, even if the pet is deemed "unfair" for new players, the battlepass that pet came from IS a really difficult battlepass. [I don't even want to do it again due to how hard it was]

Instead of blatantly/silently nerfing pets that are popular and used, introduce more gameplay mechanics that involve making money for newer players.

I spoke to a player earlier today who was stumped on what to do because he was easily raided and couldn't make money. Pets, especially snow fox, are far from the servers problem right now.

  1. We label other pets "broken" and nerf them, but this hasn't been discussed. So, let's talk about the Homunculus Pet. With every single % off Battlepass plus Homunculus' extra 15%, you're looking at a negation of 45-50%, so this is balanced? i don't think so, you're basically doing half of a Battle Pass just because a pet is another added bonus to it, i dont think thats right or should be like that.

Instead we add something that's available to the public so this pet isn't deemed "OP" something like 10m for 3d of this added bonus which will rack up and people with Homunculus will still have an advantage as they've bought it as a one time thing which will be balanced as people who do Bp's will want to buy the pet, but the casuals who still want the same effect will not have to and they'll spend 10m when they want to do it occasionally instead of the pet being hid away in a 150m pet box with a sub 5% chance to hit.

There's multiple pets like this that are "broken" which i'll list if needed :).

One reason some pets are deemed unfair is because most players aren't provided an avenue to obtain that same buff or bonus, or that pet's function within in game means. A great example of a fair pet is Ocelot, because Boots of Speed/food buffs provide that same buff on demand. A good direction for TitsRP would be giving players ways to obtain most of the pet buffs within other means. For example, a temporary fishing buff that makes fishing 25% faster, that does not stack with the Fishe pet. It could behave similar to Galaxy Gas, lasting 30 minutes.

Yeah this is a great point and was added into the starting post of this thread.

Even if you could buy a temporary fishing buff for like 15% faster (that doesn't stack with the pet) for a few million for a day or two. This could be a great change and still allows the pet owners to feel good that they have a tiny advantage over the 15% (to feel their pet has more value).

I honestly would like a minimod buff since the pet is sort of expensive to acquire and there's basically no incentive to try and grind for you especially if you aren't staff.

I have a buff in mind atm (if anyone has ideas or other changes I'd love to hear it)

1. if you are staff and take admin sits (maybe like 3 or more within 10-20m) you could receive a random shipment in your inventory similar to that of a processor, - This would give staff incentive to take more sits while online while slightly increasing the rewards acquired from sits.

Just now, MarkCX said:

I want a pet that is a Horse which has the ability to fart and each time it farts it has a 10% chance to drop a shit on the ground in which I can eat and have a 50% chance to contain corona virus.

Shut the fuck up MarkCX

+1 to this idea

Thankfully that's where Rubik wants to go! I had an in-depth Conversation with the big man in the sky, and he personally said.

Pets were never meant to provide OP Buffs, or Buffs at all, rather they were supposed to be, at it's core, a cosemtic that made you unique.
Then [Not by rubik's own accord] It all became about buffs, and we compare all new pets to the OP ass ones and thus deem them, Dogshit!

I believe that either Removing the pet's buff/nerfing the pets buff is not as benefitial, unless it's impossible to provide that benefit in a legit sense, comparative to a pet that you CAN provide the Buff to [Like what Coconut mentioned with the Ocelot, and what Mali mentioned with the Homonculus pet] It needs to have a fair standing ground with a player that doesn't have the pet.

I also Agree with Henchy, as this is basically a Staff-Only pet at this point + it should show your Sit Count.

[Also to note Von, Snow Fox pet was very much needed a nerf, a good way to re-orient the pet properly is to disable it until festive time comes around, then re-activate the 5 minute timer, very worth, and other players have a chance at getting the mass-amount of randomly spawning presents.]
