wow. just wow. it’s honestly exhausting. like the fact that we still have to talk about this in 2025?? civil rights. literal civil rights. not as some throwback moment or some history class chapter, but as a thing that’s still being fought for every single day. we’re not talking ancient history. we’re not talking “remember when.” we’re talking right now. still. after all this time. and the wildest part is how many ppl still don’t get it. like they really don’t see it. or they choose not to. like bro how are you out here pretending like everyone’s got equal rights and equal opportunities and equal treatment when it’s painfully obvious that’s not the case. like open your eyes. log off your privilege for two seconds. there are people who literally have to think about how they dress, how they speak, how they move through public spaces—just to feel safe. just to survive a traffic stop. just to not get profiled or followed around a store. just to exist without someone calling the cops for doing something completely normal. and you wanna sit there and say “it’s not that bad” or “stop making everything about race” or “you’re overreacting”?? no. we’re not. you’re underreacting. civil rights aren’t optional. they aren’t accessories. they’re not some bonus prize you get if you fit the mold or play by the rules society made without your input. they’re basic. fundamental. non-negotiable. and yet here we are—still having to convince people that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and fairness. it’s infuriating. and it’s heartbreaking. because people have died for this. they’ve marched. they’ve been beaten. jailed. surveilled. silenced. killed. just for demanding the right to be treated like human beings. and even with all that history, even with all the progress, we’re still getting pushback. still getting “both sides” arguments. still getting told to wait, to be patient, to calm down, to stop making it political. nah. we’re done waiting. we’ve been patient. we’ve been peaceful. we’ve been loud. we’ve been quiet. we’ve written the essays. shared the infographics. done the emotional labor. and still people act like it’s too much. like we’re the problem. you ever think maybe the problem isn’t the people fighting for their rights, but the systems that keep denying them? maybe it’s not the protests that are disruptive, but the injustice that made them necessary. maybe the anger isn’t the issue—it’s the reason for the anger. and don’t even get me started on performative allyship. y’all show up for the posts, the hashtags, the black squares. but where are you when the hard convos start? where are you when the laws are being passed, the votes are being suppressed, the rights are being stripped away piece by piece while you scroll in silence? this isn’t a trend. it’s not a moment. it’s a lifetime. for so many people, this is their everyday. their reality. and if you have the privilege to “not think about it” or “stay out of politics,” then congrats—you’re part of the problem. so yeah. wow. just wow. not because we’re shocked. we’ve seen this before. we’ve lived it before. we’ve yelled about it a million times. but it still stings. it still hits. because we shouldn’t have to keep saying it. but we will. we’ll keep going. we’ll keep showing up. we’ll keep fighting. because civil rights don’t defend themselves. they don’t uphold themselves. it takes people. it takes pressure. it takes all of us refusing to accept anything less than justice. so if you’re tired of hearing it, ask yourself why you’re more upset about the noise than the reason for it. if you’re uncomfortable, good. growth is uncomfortable. truth is uncomfortable. but we don’t have time for your comfort anymore. not when people’s lives are on the line. not when rights are being rolled back in real time. not when silence equals complicity. you don’t get to opt out. not anymore. you’re in it. we all are. so stop scrolling. stop deflecting. stop pretending this isn’t about you. it is. civil rights matter. now. always. do something. say something.
