Here's a thing though: Was it really an accident, or did he get cocky and thought he can dodge his ban? Just because you talked to him and he seemed nice, it doesn't mean he wouldn't go as far as to going on an alt to avoid a ban. And you assume that he is telling the truth without any proof to prove his innocence, which is if I am using the right word here since I don't use big boy words all the time, makes you look a bit ignorant. She could just be trying to back you up and lie for you. Also, what is making you even more guilty is making a new account, family sharing it, and going on the server. That is such a stupid thing to say, mate. That just makes you look guilty even more. I'm sure you knew that people with alts plays on the server while their main is banned gets perma banned. You more than likely thought you can avoid it since you watch rick and morty or something.
