Harassment report on Rkelly and staff report on Gumbowl.

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! Super disappointed in RKelly as I am reading this topic. As you might know RKelly sometimes bases with me (and is on my cc) but I don't want that to provide any biases on my end.

I have read through catto's post and all the other responses and I can definitely agree that RKelly was being intently malicious and blatantly breaking the TOS with his constant harassing of catto in OOC chat. Not to mention the literal private message to catto where he dropped his IRL location along with constant threats. And the fact that this went on for HOURS.

After reading through all of the chat logs, I can almost definitely conclude one thing. RKelly was drunk and extremely belligerent to everyone involved. The behavior he displayed is not the type of behavior that we want on display, especially in OOC chat for the entire server to see.

Also not to mention RKelly has a prior voteban for player toxicity so this is definitely not a ONE OFF occasion.

For some context, I was offline yesterday and (around the time this was going on) I received a discord DM saying "fuck catto" from RKelly which beyond confused me because catto is such a chill and friendly player. Well now I know why he sent that...

I'm +1 for a 1 week ban for RKelly like Crowmind said, his offenses did not end after the gigamute.

I'm also +1 for retraining Gumbowl but was leaning towards neutral. I think if catto had made a ticket, things would have gotten sorted out so much faster, however I have to agree with crowmind from Gumbowl's logs where he compared the TOS to rust saying that they don't enforce it over there. I personally think if we see players stirring things up like this in OOC, we need to at least bring the offending player to sitland and tell them to calm down leading into a gigamute if necessary.

In my opinion, both areas should have been handled better.

Two players saying slurs on a one off, I understand your opinion that you have discretion on when/if to step in. However, IF you had stepped in, a lot of what happened further down the line could have been prevented.

Based on the logs, it looks like once both players said slurs and it was not addressed, Catto asked why you were letting this slide. This caused RKelly to begin his tirade and cause the whole situation to continue spiraling.

If you had nipped this before it went too far, I believe this could’ve been prevented. Although I do believe a sit should’ve been made, you shouldn't wait for one to pop up before taking action. The whole point of being a moderator is to protect the player base, and if it can be preemptive, that’s even better. Me personally, I have stepped into /OOC to end conversations before they go too far. I have pulled people into a sit without a ticket to address slurs. I have told people they will be muted without tickets being made. Just because I wasn’t offended, doesn’t mean the other 100 people online at that time aren’t.

I also do not like the idea of PTOX being something that you believe we can show discretion on. My interpretation of discretion (as an example) is if a sit comes in for RDM, it’s a one time incident, and no items have been lost, I have the permission to not take that ticket. However, when people are making comments, whether it’s a one time thing or not, needs to be immediately handled so it doesn’t turn into a situation like this.

I don’t think I need to continue this response in regards to RKelly, the logs speak for themselves.

+1 for 1W ban for RKelly

+1 Retraining for Gumbowl

I read through the entire conversation, and first thing I will say is this whole argument in OOC reeks of repressed homosexuality and gmodian ego stroking. Neither of you look cool by beefing for so long in a video game chat, it just looks gay.

Rkelly was deeply in the wrong though, and gumbowl was very misguided in his approach and did not do the right thing. When it comes to being called a slur in a private sit, a pm, party chat, or other private chat types, you don't HAVE to punish, and should ideally shrug things off and not look to punish unless its necessary, that much is true.

When it comes to slurs being said publicly, or to other people, or to people in your sit, it becomes as I like to call a "Server wide issue". This means it is no longer your choice, and reprimands must be given. Whether that be a gigamute, or a warn, is up to the punishing staff member, it is acceptable to do multiple gigamutes, or warns depending on severity. Rkelly was being a menace and a loud mouth, and clearly deserved a warn for the slurs alone by themselves, but really a ban counting the massive shit fest in these logs. Not only did he get away with it, but he felt it acceptable to act this way. He made death threats, **** threats, tried to make catto dox themselves by revealing their location, and acted in a way that is the exact type of problem we DON'T want in this server.

There are levels to this shit, and levels to what you can get away with. This guy went past a lot of acceptable levels of bantering, and the staff on at the time was negligent through either misinformed education/misunderstood education, or outright incompetence, or hell...both.

Rkelly wants to act like a big tough thug? Like he's hot shit? Well then he can get a big boy thug ban. For death threats, **** threats, slurs, extreme banter past acceptable limits, lets go with a 3mo ban. No need to coddle or protect this kind of behavior. This is not someone we want in the community, and continued behavior like this could very well result in a future perma ban. ACCEPTED.

In the future catto, the more you stay out of these kinds of arguments, the better. You may be a player with no expectations of being unbiased or unproblematic, but this argument went on for hours, and as a player who understands the rules well, you'd do best to avoid continuing these kinds of situations, as you could potentially get yourself in trouble as well for arguing a ton in ooc.

7 hours ago, catto said:

so i figured he would naturally be bias

This is how you continue having biased staff not get caught or demoted when such is the case. If you think a staff is biased, keep pestering them until they take your sit, and if they dont report, if they do and mishandle it, report. Either option will give you ammo for your case.

@MordecaiYou've got some training thats going to be needed, and you need to really learn from this scenario, further slip ups to this degree could wind up with strikes or demotions, so do try to make sure this is something that will be improved upon.
