  2. I have tried both of those strategies, actually.

     

    Neither come close to even bother with.

     

    Trying to lie your way to the mayor with a different model has never led to anything more than "no, go away" until the potion wears off and they kill you immediately. Even when asking to get in for a firearm license or to become a firearm trainer so that you can give them out when there's a licencing law in effect. If the mayor doesn't want to be seen by the public, then the mayor won't be seen by the public.

     

    Claiming to have died during a revolt will just get you weapon checked and killed.

    Shit, I've had someone /want me before I could even step foot out of spawn for "attempting to assassinate the mayor" just last week.

     

    ^ like.... you cant rp or lie your way around stuff like that

  3. Ye, the more I think about it the more I start to think the Mayor's Assassin could probably stand to be reworked entirely. 

     

    Any quick method of pre-emptive detection is going to be used and abused, and will ensure that the assassin is found out at the first fading door. 

     

    I think in a perfect world, the assassin would be given full CP kit and access to relevant group chats, and the mayor would have to rely on the skill of himself and his Civil Protection group as the only real counter. 

     

    I've had mayors eat point-blank 130 damage headshots from a wz for breakfast-- there are loads of tools out there that will prevent you from getting 1-shot with no time to react unless the assassin is willing to throw away a legendary upon demotion. And tbh if someone is -that- determined they should be able to do it. 

     

    Also kinda wish that assassin RDM were taken a bit more seriously. I've had CP randomly guess at me being an assassin and killing me, with an RDM sit not being taken because "you were the assassin tho". Shit, I've had someone /want me before I could even step foot out of spawn for "attempting to assassinate the mayor" just last week. I've also been RDM'd by CP for being a legit SWAT job, but having a bought knife or USP out. Those sits didn't get taken either. If it wouldn't fly on any TTT server, it shouldn't fly here. I know these are two completely different gamemodes, but RDM is RDM no matter where you go.

  4. yeh, it probably sounds dumb to people that have played here for a while and have gotten a grip on some of the nuance-- but i think something like this could be useful to people that come here that are used to the rules of other servers or have little concept of how some things work in darkrp in general

     

    anything that can potentially cut back on frustration is a +1 in my book

    fr tho, what should be out of the question is a safe and free way of deleting a job with zero counterplay

     

     

    the whole point to tell fi its the assasin is " show me your arrest baton" for clarification if he is or not

     

    hint: this right here is a safe and free way of deleting the mayor's assassin with zero counterplay

    I mean think about it hey show me your arrest baton shows it kills the mayor.

    law: mayor's office is kos

    to group: "hey guys that new cp is sketchy as fuck keep an eye on him"

     

    or

     

    to group: "next cp/swat i see picking his ass in PD instead of doing their job patrolling and enforcing laws is getting fired"

     

    four things that took less than ten seconds to think of-- im sure the playerbase can come up with more

     

    the point is, there are more options for protecting the mayor from assassins out there that don't get explored because big-brained os4JrCH.png "show me ur baton" in the PD lobby is essentially a -guaranteed- death sentence for an assassin.

     

     

     

    100% pointless suggestion.It would ruin the role of the mayor and the assasin.

     

    if you think taking away a 100% effective zero-counterplay hand-holding safety net gravy train that eliminates a job that exists for the sole purpose of being a threat to the mayor "ruins the role of the mayor", idk what to tell you

     

    this could potentially breathe life into the never-played secret service job and give the assassin job something to do other than die at the first keypad

I think there should be a way to identify the mayors assassin.  With a fake arrest baton, the assassin could go right next to the mayor, quickly pull and gun and kill them instantly.  Even if every Secret Service role is filled, no one could stop the assassination. It would be too easy.

     

    a wary mayor with full health and armor isn't likely to go down instantly-- and players can get creative with whether or not they want to AoS/kos non-secret service with a gun out near the mayor.

     

    any method of preemptive detection will just lead back to square one of the mayor's assassin being basically useless

    great advice, i'll be sure to parrot "git gud" next time a string of assassins get assfucked the instant they step into pd without an arrest baton out

  8. you're glancing over the fact that the arrest baton is the ONLY way to check for the mayors assassin. Like I said, it used to be cuff checks then they added fake cuffs. You can't have fake everything. If there weren't fake cuffs already, I'd be completely for this. But with the cuffs, its a big -1 to add fake arrest batons as well.

     

    No, that's the only thing left to find out who the mayors assassian is.

    i addressed that bit already-- haven't glanced anything over

     

    mayor's assassin should be able to get in undetected

     

    secret service/cp/swat should be able to protect the mayor in the event of an assassination attempt

     

    otherwise there's practically no difference between mayor's assassin and a lone pd raider that's chugged a CP model potion

    if only there existed a job solely to protect and bodyguard the mayor that totally won't fade into obscurity because it's never needed given the current status quo oh wait

     

    and yeh, there's technically no metagaming but im sure we can agree that it's kinda bs to have someone /wanted you before even leaving spawn upon choosing mayor's assassin

     

    also making it 100% impossible to even hope to perform the sole function of your job =/= check or balance-- it's simple invalidation.

     

    other CP/Secret Service are already an adequate check against a lone assassin, I think

    as it stands right now the mayor's assassin faces weapon checks or "show arrest baton or kos" to the point of being neutered useless when facing the tiniest speck of competence from the pd

     

    and that's on top of being metagamed and failrp'd to heck and back

     

    it shouldn't be so easy to invalidate a job entirely

    is there a staff position that deals exclusively with blatant and obvious MRDM and prop-blocking with no expectation to sift through evidence in cases of NLR or dealing with inter-personal issues between other players, or any of the other headache-inducing and rule-lawyering nonsense people at large come up with to @ staff about? kinda like how one with votekick and voteban is supposed to be able to do but rarely has it work out?

     

    if so, I'll have my app in by the end of the day

     

    otherwise tho.... i deal with that sort of stuff enough at work as it is, lol

    mmmm, not exactly, i don't think

     

    more like a vetted position that exists exclusively to quell obvious mass RDMers and propminges the moment they pop up with no staff on without being tied down to the obligation to take sits or of dealing with more nuanced issues better suited to a forum report in the case of no staff

     

    as opposed to mass RDMers and propminges wreaking havok on the server while the 30th voteban attempt fails to pass because people are either afk or retarded and by the time someone gets ahold of an available staff member a load of damage is already done, items/money lost, players leaving, etc.

     

    'cause that's a situation that I've noticed comes up with a frequency that can stand to be reduced

     

    at least that's what im picking up from what horizon's putting down

  14. So if someone has respected rank and there is no staff on and they start kicking and banning everyone for 30 minutes what can happen. This would be abused very easily. 

     

    -1 for the idea

     

    idk, i'd like to hope titsrp's vetting process would be thorough enough to not pass the rank to unstable shitlords

     

    i've seen it play out in other servers before-- managed properly, i think it could be a helpful addition towards policing those most egregious offenders that tend to cock things up when they don't see any staff in the player list

     

    would also give responsible long-time players that want to help but don't have the time or energy to put towards working as full-on staff a meaningful way to contribute to the server's well-being, and personally i have trouble finding much fault with that

    The beauty of this server is how you can raid and base freely

    I think you dictating how people SHOULD raid and how people SHOULD build their bases is a huge downgrade to the server and I dont believe most players will like it

     

     

     

    yeh but this is not how it is currently

     

    as it stands now, if you're not holding C4 until the timer ticks down to .2 seconds before punting it around the corner into a base, then you're raiding wrong-- and if you're not sitting behind a barricade with a 1px slit for shooting behind a loooooooong crouch zig-zag base, then you're basing wrong.

     

    this meta sprung up because of c4 and how it be

     

    i don't think removing it entirely is the answer, but I +1 making it ungravvable

  17. please give raiding the kingdom a good, honest, competitive effort first - gather a party, make liberal usage of deployable shields and blowtorches maybe? Do your best.

     

    this is really, really hard to do

     

    typical kingdom defenses tend to leave prospective raiders walled in and facing the first fading door upon entering, making accidental re-entry of the portal to the fountain and ending the raid far easier than it has any right to be

     

    there is a glitch with the portal, about 1/3rd of the times I've entered the kingdom after it's been built up I've experienced it. this glitch leaves you with a black and empty screen while still being able to move about and be killed

     

    deployed shields can't be stacked, have to be taken from inventory, equipped, and used individually and are hilariously weak, able to be destroyed before a single prop can be blowtorched through

     

    most of the problems I've noticed seem to revolve around the portal and how easily the kingdom gang can get an overwhelming amount of control over the point of entry-- leaving attackers with zero breathing room, and the advert requirement certainly doesn't help

     

    if it weren't for the portal and the particularities surrounding it, i don't think there would be any issues

  18. yeh, facing the firing squad that assembles upon a kingdom raid advert is getting beyond silly

     

    it wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the portal being the way that it is

     

    if the portal dropped you into a no-build zone behind a physical castle gate and wall that occupants couldn't kill you from, that could alleviate a pretty good chunk of the issues i think

  19. idk if it's even a matter of health to size ratios

     

    gmod's hitboxes are bad enough on full-sized models, shrinking just compounds that problem

     

    im sure the server would miss that sweet grade A mini/speed-boosted kidnapping RP too much tho

  20. Here's the problem you guys are having: You guys think you should be able to raid any base at any time and have a good chance of success. The base owner SHOULD have an advantage. If you want to be successful, come with a party, and ensure that the base owner isn't there before you start your raid. This is how I always raid.

     

    If I wanted to raid any base at any time and have a good chance of success, I'd just chuck material and time bombs like god intended.

     

    There is nothing about buffing keypad crackers to bring them more in line with lockpicks that would kill much of the overwhelming advantage base owners find themselves with. Same goes for barricades.

     

    I'm not even sure where you got the idea that anybody here is looking to make raiding more ez mode. Do you really think making keypad crackers as fast as lockpicks would significantly increase the success rate for raiders by any real measure?

  21. I agree with piklas... Nerfing c4/timebombs only helps the big boy bases. The more well known players and older players that know what they're doing. If you wanna make it more "noob" friendly... Basing rules are gonna have to be edited.

     

    To be honest, getting rid of one way fences may be the way to go.

     

     

    I certainly wouldnt be opposed to doing away with this crutch.

  22. Can we make it a little less of a pain for bounty Hunters to perform the functions of their job? Like maybe getting the bounty from the bounty board, or killing the "pickpocketing" aspect?

     

    The number of times I've had to explain how the bounty list swep works-- as well as the number of times I've been arrested or killed trying to use it, even after said explanation and permission granting, is too damn high.
